The Garden of Delight (abbreviated GOD) was a German music formation. Numerous publications followed an overall concept; the lyrics were often mystical. The band was founded in 1990 by Artaud Seth and the Italian Pisacane. Pisacane left in 1991 after the release of the first album already the band and was replaced by the Irish Thomas O'Connell. In 1993, Adrian Hates (Diary of Dreams) joined and completed the cast for the time being. The first concert took place on December 9, 1992 in Halle (Saale).
The basic concept was to publish seven albums of seven songs each in seven years and then dissolve. The Garden of Delight was one of Germany's leading gothic rock bands in the early and mid-90s. To date, the band has sold over 150,000 phonograms. Despite the success of the last concert as scheduled on October 27, 1997 in Derby (Great Britain) instead. After the dissolution Artaud Seth founded together with Thomas O'Connell, Mike York and Tom wet the project Chaos God, which was however relatively unsuccessful. So a tour had to be canceled after a serious traffic accident by drummer wet.
Seth's new compositions were more in keeping with The Garden of Delight than with Chaos God, and so the band was reanimated in 2000. Also the albums Radiant Sons and Dawn brought The Garden of Delight success.Seth's new compositions were more in keeping with The Garden of Delight than with Chaos God, and so the band was reanimated in 2000. Around the same time that Jawa Seth, Artaud's wife, joined the band, Thomas O'Connell got off and joined the Gods Army project, which he left in 2007. In 2003, the albums Apocryphal I: The Fallen and Apocryphal II: The Faithful, which deal with the book of Enoch, were published. The DVD Apocryphal Moments, which was recorded on 15 November 2003 at the La Laiterie in Strasbourg, featured two promo videos, a hidden video and a bonus CD with remixes, live tracks and unpublished material.
Following on from 2005 under the banner "GOD featuring Lutherion" released three albums. Each album was released as a very elaborate double digipack with bonus CD. The music shows the harder side of The Garden of Delight and draws increasingly on crossover and electro elements, as they were already used in Chaos God. The band celebrated again successful concerts (including in Athens, Valencia and Moscow). On August 25, 2007, the end of The Garden of Delight was announced. On October 12, 2007 released the last studio album Darkest Hour and the single Reign. The final concert took place on 1 November 2008 in Berlin at K17 and was released on 15 May 2009 on DVD / CD.
Under the name Lutherion in November 2009, the album Kosmogenesis (this time exclusively with German sung pieces) published. Due to unresolved copyright issues of the title Winterland it came in December 2009 to a reprinting of the album, with some of the older pieces replaced, or were recorded in alternative versions. Previously released to the album in the course of 2009, three single releases (Psychonaut, Sodomie & Nebelthron). After the dissolution of Garden of Delight in 2010, the new project Merciful Nuns was founded.
