Ernst Horn worshiped the masters of classical music from a young age, immersed himself in the sonatas of Beethoven and Prokofiev, and yet was a child of his time, regularly to be found at demonstrations, as well as in clubs with progressive music. So it was only a matter of time before he had to make a decision: to abandon his classical career as a conductor, to found his own studio with electronic music for experimental and alternative pop music. His successes with theater music, radio plays, concept albums and the projects Dein Lakaien, Qntal and Helium Vola were the confirmation of the correctness of his choice.
The latter in particular are a prime example of openness and imaginative variety, in wild sound collages and sequences, sensitive ballads and strictly composed madrigals with interpreters of early music and the “e-music avant-garde” scene. The new album "Where to?", Which has a complicated history because it was originally planned as a song collection without a general concept under the title "Quodlibet", is now another departure for frontier worker Ernst Horn on a journey whose destination he does not know. After many years as a musician and composer, the question of a stray child remains: "Where to?"
Ambitious goals, as formulated in the frame pieces "Nubibus artis" and "Aquil altera"? "If you want to see the truth in bright light: chase away joy, chase away fear, chase away hope, and pain should be far away ...", or (inserted) in the same song: "In spring everything will be new ... .how great are the joys for lovers ... "?
In between the two hours of play, the variety of themes and sensations that are known and loved by Helium Vola is spread out, carefree dance songs that will find their friends in the clubs, tender and sad love songs, the dialogue between a young man and his deceased Beloved on the grave, but also political, weapon blessing, crusader slogans, the visions of a Welsh miner and a lost indigenous culture.
Particular attention was paid to new forms of composition and polyphony, including in the solo songs.
"Prima Voce" by Helium Vola is, as always, Sabine Lutzenberger, one of the most outstanding singers of early music and recently also increasingly active in avant-garde electronic music. At her side are Gerlinde Sämann, Andreas Hirtreiter and Joel Frederiksen soloists, who celebrate successes on the opera stage as concert soloists, but also with ensembles such as "Hilliard", "Hesperion" or "Huelgas". New are Priska Eser, soprano, concert soloist and member of the Bavarian Radio Choir, and Hannah Wagner, a hopeful young singer and composer who studies at the University of Music in Leipzig.
The album "Wohin?" Will be released at a standard price for CDs in an elaborate digipack, the booklet contains the texts in the original language, German and English.
